Being a Good Neighbour - The driver for positive social impact

Speedy is and always has been, committed to the communities in which we operate. We take our broader responsibilities very seriously and aim to create a positive social legacy through a range of activities including charitable donations, employee engagement and through creative and innovative community engagement.

On a national and international level we support a number of construction related charities, The Lighthouse Club, CRASH, and Habitat for Humanity. On a local basis our engagement is much broader through the individual efforts and activities of our depot network and our people. This can range from individual fundraising for local charities or causes to 'in kind' support and activity around national events such as red nose day or comic relief. Individual fundraising is often 'matched' by the Group.

Our Charities Committee act as a central point of co-ordination for activity throughout the Group and the committee's membership is drawn from across our operations. The Committee assesses applications to the Group and also provides a support function to the depot network in terms of advice and guidance as and when it is required.

Speedy's largest national 'social impact' programme is our longstanding partnership with HM Prison Service on the rehabilitation agenda. With approximately 200 prisoners in training in partnership with 4 prisons across England and Scotland the programme is providing accredited training to inmates at HMP Garth, HMP Pentonville, HMP Erlestoke and HMP Glenochill. Speedy are also committed to employing offenders leaving prison in conjunction with recommendations from the Prison Service.

The Speedy apprenticeship scheme, which spans both our community and workplace agendas is also looking to provide quality opportunities for young people within our industry, including an undertaking to recruit 30 apprentices as part of the social legacy of our successful consortium bid for work on the Olympic Park.

You will find further information about our CR activity on these pages and we are always looking for feedback. We would love to hear your views and invite you to get in touch by emailing cr@speedyhire.com.
